Courtney + Ryan

I point the camera in an engagement session and trust that it will find “it.” The connection. The love. The whole raison d’être for taking engagement photos in the first place. It shows up even in those moments at first when a couple might be feeling particularly awkward about putting their relationship on display. Maybe it’s when they laugh over the awkwardness. Or when they look into each other’s eyes and take comfort in the fact that those eyes comfort them more than any others. I snap. Love. Courtney and Ryan admitted before I took a single photo that they felt pretty uncomfortable getting their picture taken. But it didn’t matter. They leaned against walls and walked and held hands and kissed and, clearly, never stopped loving.

Miranda + Matthew – Married Today!

Not everyone can pull off classic style _ that perfect combination of timeless cut and dress (and knowing how to wear it) that makes a person, not just their clothes, really stand out. Somehow, though, both Matt and Miranda can do it.

What a beautiful pair they made on the streets of downtown Tulsa a couple of weeks ago when we met for some engagement photos! They looked great standing in front of Arnie’s bar, as well as slow dancing in front of the elegant Mid-Continent Tower.
When they dashed out onto Boston Avenue for a kiss in the street, I felt like I was on the set of  “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” They so fit that scene. The great thing is they were just as natural hanging out at the park.

The photos, though, show something more than a great mutual sense of style. These two have a lot of fun together. They were in sync, even in those early moments of picture taking where everything can be a little uncomfortable and out of sync. I’m anticipating a wedding day (it’s fast approaching) that’s a classic too! _ Kelly

Lindsay + Aaron – the engagement

Lindsay and Aaron told me that they live in the country, or almost, but are sort of city people so they weren’t sure if they wanted urban or earthy photos, so we headed downtown and did a little of both. All day the sun had come in and out of the clouds, but storms were rolling in and right before our session began the clouds took over the sky. Although we were hoping that the sun would peek through just a little here and there, it ended up being perfect weather for our outdoor shoot at Centennial Park and then in the heart of downtown Tulsa.

There was a warm breeze blowing and the smell of rain as Lindsay and Aaron strolled through the park hand in hand, laughing at each other and giggling at how “weird” it is to have a camera following you around. Although they said they were a little uncomfortable in front of the camera, they definitely didn’t show it. Maybe it was because they were so caught up in loving each other that it masked it. They were so playful and comfortable together and the ease with which they interacted was such a beautiful thing. It was refreshing to see two people enjoy each others company so completely, not take each too seriously and to just be together. I am so looking forward to their wedding in September and to share with them as they begin a new chapter of life.  – Lauren

Brittany + Ryan – playing in the park

Brittany and Ryan couldn’t pass up the springtime glory of Woodward Park when they came to Tulsa on a recent visit from their homes in Tonkawa. The park was in full bloom with pink, fuchsia and salmon azalea blossoms and bathed in golden light the evening we met for their engagement photos. A pretty location, however, isn’t what makes a beautiful picture. The beauty is in the way a couple looks at each other or the way they spontaneously break into laughter at the same time.

It’s the way Ryan carries his future bride’s lip gloss in his pocket and rolls up his jeans to step into a slippery stream bed so she can jump into his arms. It’s Brittany throwing her arms around his neck and smiling, not because I asked her to, but because there’s happiness there. It’s the way they play outside the old Airstream trailer we found in a parking lot, knowing that their first home together will be the one they make traveling with a truck and a fifth wheel. _ Kelly

Amanda + John – The engagement

On an early Saturday morning downtown I had the privilege of shooting Amanda and John’s engagement session. They had driven in from Oklahoma City and were excited to shoot on the rooftop of an old building overlooking the city. It was a gorgeous view and the only thing more beautiful were Amanda and John themselves.

They were glowing…not just from the sun, heat or view but from their happiness and love for each other. You could tell that they are so in love without them uttering a word but merely their interaction. They couldn’t stop looking at or touching each other, there was frequent giggling and huge smiles were glued to their faces throughout our time. The kind of happiness that Amanda and John obviously bring to each other is something that every person should have the privilege of experiencing.

I loved this session…their positive energy, happiness and genuine great nature was contagious! I can’t wait to see them again at their wedding next month at the gorgeous Post Oaks Lodge…I know it will be a magical time for all! ~Lauren
