Emily and Jerod’s engagement photos were taken last week in the 100+ degree temperatures and despite the heat they were completely unfazed and totally awesome. I had so much fun shooting them because their personalities were so complimentary of each other and I loved watching them interact with one another. He is the small (-ish) town kind of guy and she is a little city, but together they make a couple that you can see holding hands and smooching in public 50 years from now. Jerod joked about everything and throughout the whole session reminded Emily that he sure thought she was something with cute little compliments like that she had the most gorgeous green eyes or looked beautiful! Through the night Emily just laughed at his jokes and giggled and got all cute and sort of shy at his compliments. I just love seeing couples like Emily and Jerod that truly seem perfect. I just know that their wedding in September is going to an intimate, but so fun wedding and I can’t wait!!!

He was the man in uniform, called to attention by the awe of seeing his bride enter the sanctuary. She swept up the aisle on her father’s arm, with a smile as stunning as her full gown. Watching Olivia and Jake get married a few weeks ago was, for me, like looking through the box of photos from my parents’ own wedding. It had to be the uniform, of course. (And the sweet way Jake gazed at his bride.) My mother married into the Navy. Olivia was marrying into the Air Force. She and Jake looked so classic and so happy shedding the nerves and coming back down the aisle together. Even at the glorious country club party that followed Jake and Olivia’s wedding, the uniform was a reminder to me of all the sacrifices that those who serve and those who marry them make. I spent a lot of time with that old box of photos last year. My parents were celebrating their 50th anniversary. I imagine the day that Olivia and Jake open up their own box and are transported over decades, back to the day their marriage was brand new. .jpg)

The ceremony took place at East Cross United Methodist Church in Bartlesville, followed by a reception at Hillcrest Country Club. Family friends helped turn the club’s ballroom into a beautiful wonderland of soft tulle and yellow lights and colorful table bouquets by Flowerland. DJ Connections kept the tunes coming and the crowd dancing until it was time for the couple’s departure. What a party!.jpg)

Even the 40-foot fountain walls flanking the garden of the Oklahoma Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City seemed to murmur with joy the evening Rhonda and Jake came together there to be wed. In her jeweled ribbon headband and beautifully cut crinkle dress, Rhonda was a perfect reflection of the garden’s simple, modern elegance. And Jake never took his eyes off of her as she made her way up the aisle. Love and joy were shining on many of the faces among the close gathering of family and friends as the two exchanged vows in a blaze of evening light. They shared their love story in a reading of Shel Silverstein’s “The Missing Piece Meets the Big O.”
Later, they shared a dance behind the bubbling walls.

The light trickled through the trees and danced across the guest’s faces as Alex waited nervously in the woods. Megan approaches, hidden and quiet, through the Post Oak forest and waits for the men to take their places under the pavilion; waits for the moment to be hers. A hush falls over the crowd and the music swells up out of the spot and floats across the fresh canopy of leaves. As she makes her way down the earthen aisle, the sun pours through the opening in the arbor handmade by him and onto the resplendent face of his bride. His eyes; illuminated.

Later, the chatter of the family, gathered for photographs, echoes softly through the woods and across the brilliant green grass. They swap in and out of frame quickly to flash a smile and record a moment. When all is done, the party makes their way up the hill to the lodge. Candle lanterns lead the way along the winding rock path. A young girl, replete with joy runs ahead and in her hurry, loses a shoe.

Back at the lodge, the couple sits on the ivory couch placed in the woods for them as the electric lights glow warm in the summer air above. Their affection is as clear as the night and directed only at one another. Finally the time comes and they enter the lodge as man and wife for all time. The night’s affairs roll on. Drink, food, cake, dance. In the end the light is gone. But the illumination remains..jpg)
