Even the 40-foot fountain walls flanking the garden of the Oklahoma Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City seemed to murmur with joy the evening Rhonda and Jake came together there to be wed. In her jeweled ribbon headband and beautifully cut crinkle dress, Rhonda was a perfect reflection of the garden’s simple, modern elegance. And Jake never took his eyes off of her as she made her way up the aisle. Love and joy were shining on many of the faces among the close gathering of family and friends as the two exchanged vows in a blaze of evening light. They shared their love story in a reading of Shel Silverstein’s “The Missing Piece Meets the Big O.”
Later, they shared a dance behind the bubbling walls.
What a great time! Everyone dancing, everyone laughing. The joy of the day exploded on the dance floor. Congrats Rhonda and Jake on a beautiful wedding and happy life together! _ Kelly
The light trickled through the trees and danced across the guest’s faces as Alex waited nervously in the woods. Megan approaches, hidden and quiet, through the Post Oak forest and waits for the men to take their places under the pavilion; waits for the moment to be hers. A hush falls over the crowd and the music swells up out of the spot and floats across the fresh canopy of leaves. As she makes her way down the earthen aisle, the sun pours through the opening in the arbor handmade by him and onto the resplendent face of his bride. His eyes; illuminated.
Later, the chatter of the family, gathered for photographs, echoes softly through the woods and across the brilliant green grass. They swap in and out of frame quickly to flash a smile and record a moment. When all is done, the party makes their way up the hill to the lodge. Candle lanterns lead the way along the winding rock path. A young girl, replete with joy runs ahead and in her hurry, loses a shoe.
Back at the lodge, the couple sits on the ivory couch placed in the woods for them as the electric lights glow warm in the summer air above. Their affection is as clear as the night and directed only at one another. Finally the time comes and they enter the lodge as man and wife for all time. The night’s affairs roll on. Drink, food, cake, dance. In the end the light is gone. But the illumination remains.
A few weeks ago Ashley and Connor shared an intimate ceremony and reception in Snug Harbor at Southern Hills Country Club with their closest family and friends. The evening was laid back, stress free, and beautifully simple seeming to fit their personalities perfectly.
Their marriage was not just the joining of two people but of 3, and that was something that was extremely important to both Connor and Ashley from the start. When Caroline, Connor’s daughter, arrived she was in awe of the stunning bride and was even more awed when they presented her with her very own ring before the ceremony.
Ashley wore a stunning Oscar De La Renta gown adorned with large gauzy flowers and gorgeous glittery stilettos. She and her closest friends had makeup done by Jennifer Siddiki at J. Lea Makeup and hair by Candace Due at Parlour Salon.
Despite the hit or miss rain throughout the night, Mother Nature was on their side, holding off at just the right times allowing the ceremony to go off without a hitch. The ceremony, which took place on a tented balcony, was elegantly set with simple white chairs as well as white floral arrangements by Toni’s Flowers. When it came time for Ashley and Connor to exchanged rings, Caroline joined them up front to present the rings and share in this special time also bringing with her many smiles and laughs.
After the ceremony guests went inside for cocktails and dinner. There was an extremely clever array of “kid friendly” fare on one side of the room and a delicious “adult” spread of freshly rolled sushi and Asian inspired snacks on the other side. They had even designated an area for the young guests to lounge on beanbags, eat and watch movies. To top things off there was a delicious tower of vanilla, strawberry and chocolate cupcakes by Foodie Biz as well as a huge icecream sundae bar that had the guests going crazy!
Once everyone had their fill of delicious food, the toasts, dancing and fun ensued! Ashley and Connor did an amazing job on their choreographed first dance, causing a room full of onlookers to hoot and holler as they owned the floor. There was no shortage of crazy moves, loud singing and echoing laughter by guests either as everyone made their way to the dance floor at one time or another.
Finally, the bride and groom made their exit with family and friends waving giant sparklers in celebration of their beautiful marriage!
Congratulations!

A wedding at McBirney Mansion is a special thing to me. It is the place, after all, where 13 years ago my husband and I exchanged our own vows in the lovely garden on a hill overlooking the Arkansas River. But I have to say, I’ve never seen it looking quite so stunning as it did the night Victoria and Ben wed.
First, there was the beautiful evening light streaming through the trees and glowing through Victoria’s spectacularly long veil as she swept down the front steps to meet Ben under the arbor in the garden.
Then, having two photographers during the ceremony (thanks Josh!) allowed us to capture Victoria and Ben from two unique vantage points. These two photos record the moment Victoria and Ben were declared husband and wife. I love how they each show a very distinct expression of joy on their faces.Inside, event planner and designer Jeffrey Evans and his crew transformed the old manse with soft fuschia lighting and pale pink tablecloths. Bouquets of pink roses and peonies from Lila’s bloomed here and there on tables throughout the main hall. Palace Cafe provided a lovely and tasty buffet, and Icing on the Top created the beautiful tiered cake. The toast by Ben’s brother, Will, had everyone rolling with laughter. Evans used pink lighting, modern pillows and sleek white leather seating to give McBirney’s downstairs a hip club feel. DJ Bo Counts kept the place hopping late into the night. And then, at this reception full of great ideas came the greatest of all: a bright and colorful taco truck showed up outside to revive the revelers with absolutely sizzling carnitas, carne asada and pollo tacos.I loved this sweet little moment, captured in an outdoor spotlight, while Ben and Victoria are waiting for their orders of tacos.
The next day, Victoria’s parents hosted a brunch at the Tulsa Historical Society. Evans again worked his magic on the tables, handmaking the charming little tags that featured scenes from the couple’s honeymoon destination. A fresh latte from the coffee bar operated by Nordaggio’s was a delicious touch, and a good reviver after a night of revelry.
What a beautiful wedding and a beautiful start to their new life together. Congrats, Victoria and Ben! _ Kelly
