Kylie + Tyler
What do you get when you mix a beautiful bride, a charming groom, a wheelbarrow, a hockey team and a dancing grandmother in an elegant hilltop venue on a moonlit night in February? A whole lot of smiles and fun!
Kylie Burd and Tyler Wick were married Feb. 12 at the Vesica Piscis Chapel in Catoosa amid a joyful and cozy gathering of family and friends. The bride’s gown glowed a soft gold, like the lovely European-styled chapel itself. But when the pastor declared them “soul mates,” it was the smiles on Kylie and Tyler’s faces that really lit up the room.
In Kylie’s family, there’s a tradition that serves as something as a litmus test for new members. The groom must load his bride into a wheelbarrow, push her some distance, buy her something and then return to the wedding celebration. Everybody was laughing as Tyler feigned difficulty and then easily wheeled his bride out into the chilly night, across the parking lot, where Kylie’s uncle “sold” him a box of candy.
DJ Connection kept the party hopping all night. The guys from Tyler’s hockey team showed off their dance moves, but Kylie’s grandmother and Tyler’s mom stole the show on the dance floor.
The groom’s cake looked like a hockey rink, and Tyler’s team and coach were at the wedding. But when I asked the guys to smile for their formals, no one appeared to have ever lost a tooth to a hockey stick. Everyone, Tyler said, had recently had their full grins restored. They must have known Kylie and Tyler’s wedding celebration would give them lots of reasons to smile. _ Kelly
