Congratulations to Megan and Alphus, who officially tied the knot on March 18! We had a great time with a fun crowd and a beautiful family who celebrated in style at NOAH’S Event Venue. The location offered the perfect setting for a cozy indoor/outdoor ceremony and reception with opportunities for some stunning looks out by two dramatic silos.
A lot of talent went in to making this party happen, with planning and decor by Mom and Me Events, food by Just Catering By Orr, delicious desserts by Icing On The Top and Ms. Laura’s Cakes, and music by LionsRoad DJs. Megan looked absolutely gorgeous in her flowing dress with hair by Ash Franke Styles.
For this wedding, we took advantage of a second photographer to capture key moments and times when the couple was apart. For couples that choose to see each other before their wedding ceremony, a first look is a beautiful way to connect and share some quiet minutes together.
I particularly loved the moment when Alphus turned to see Megan for the first time. His face lit up at his stunning bride and they rushed to embrace. The “mad dash” to get everything ready slowed down for a perfect time of togetherness. We are always trying to capture those emotional moments because you can see the story of a couple’s love in them. Here, a groom buries his face in his bride’s hair and all is right with the world.
Congratulations to Megan and Alphus as they go out into the world together!

For some, it’s a cherished memory, but others say it’s straight up bad luck! If you’re getting married in 2017, you’re probably wondering whether or not to have a “first look” with your soon-to-be spouse. No matter what you decide, there are several creative ways to take advantage of those precious moments before the guests arrive. Check out a few of our recent favorites!
The First Look
The controversial first look is either highly desired or strictly avoided! If you’re not the superstitious type, it can be an amazing part of your wedding day. Keep in mind that your ceremony will feel like it flies by, and sometimes it’s hard to soak everything in as you stand in front of family and friends. The first look is a great chance to spend a quite moment with your partner before all the activity. Take your time, take a deep breath, and just be present. Your wedding photographer is there to capture all the details for you to enjoy later!
Another big benefit of the first look is the opportunity for outdoor daylight! Keep in mind that especially in the winter, sunset can come as early as 5:15. It could be pitch dark by the time your ceremony is over at 6:00. A good pro photographer can work with whatever they’ve got, but you might have to do a first look if you really want outdoor shots with blue skies or the perfect golden hour glow.
Some couples also use this opportunity to exchange gifts, often including jewelry or other small items that can be worn during the ceremony.
The First Non-Look
Believe it or not, you can have a first look WITHOUT actually seeing each other! Some call it a “private moment,” and we’ve sometimes called it the “first non-look.” How, you ask? All you need is a wall, doorway, or even a basic corner (and a little restraint.)
Recently, we captured this amazing moment at Spain Ranch with Meredith and Brett before their wedding. A strategic corner offered a chance for a few words of love and laughter, and the couple was even able to hold hands. Natural light filtering through the venue’s rustic elegant hallways made for some gorgeous photos. We captured the whole perspective for the bride and groom to see after the fact!
Personal Notes
Still not convinced the first look is for you? Personal notes are another classic way to commemorate the final hours before your wedding. Take a quite moment in advance to hand-write and seal a letter for your partner, and have someone in your wedding party deliver the note while you’re getting ready. Reading your note is an excuse to slow down for a few minutes, and your photographer can be right there to capture the joy and emotion as you both read.
Last Christmas Rob proposed to Katie. This Christmas, Katie is his wife. Fittingly, this beautiful couple decided to have a holiday wedding a few weeks ago, and Southern Hills Country Club provided the perfect backdrop.
The day was perfect. After a heartfelt letter exchange, Katie got into her stunning gown and had a beautiful “first look” with her father. And although brisk and breezy, we managed to take advantage of the bright blue day, and Rob had a chance to see his lovely bride outdoors. Christie at Southern Hills presented a perfect timeline. Nobody felt rushed, and we took full advantage of our time to get plenty of photos indoors as well as outside.
“I was the most relaxed bride!” Katie told us after the fact. “It was so perfect in every aspect.”
Shortly after sunset, we got the Old Urban Trolley, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and went to Christ the King. Msgr. Mueggenborg and Father O’Brien officiated.
Flowers from Mrs. Dehaven’s were a perfect complement to the holiday decor. And Tulsa’s Full Flava Kings created the perfect party mood. Just as things we getting hot, family and friends saw them off with sparklers.
Deborah and John celebrated their vows 41 stories above downtown Tulsa at Sky Loft in September, in a room packed with family and friends who traveled from all over to be there.
With views across the city, it was a spectacular marriage celebration that began two years ago when the couple became engaged on Christmas Eve. Flowers from The French Bouquet and the work of EB2 Events transformed the room into an elegant, skytop-worthy setting of whites and golds.
LionsRoad kept the music coming. The bride’s brother even made a quick appearance on the dance floor in a T. Rex suit. How many wedding receptions come with a dancing dinosaur?! This couple, their fun friends, John’s three teenage sons and family members on both sides made this wedding super special. We are so glad we got to be part of it.
Monique and Joy _ or MoJo to all those who know them _ launched their wedding celebration by happily dancing their mothers down the aisle at the Dresser Mansion. When these two turned to see each other for the first time as June brides after an eight-year engagement, the whole crowd burst into bright smiles at their teary-eyed reaction. It was a night of high-energy dancing and fun and yes, lots of mojo! So glad we got to be part of it.
